ART & SCIENCE
ENHANCE DIALOGUE
AND CREATION
Science is a source of inspiration for art, just as art can help us to understand science.
It is also a vector of communication so that artists and scientists working together can strengthen links
with civil society in order to address the great issues facing contemporary society.
UMAGOUMA proposes an approach combining Art & Science,
two complementary disciplines with their origins in the same source of creativity.
Our pioneering approach combines art and science to work towards achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supports their implementation through art and culture in order to place creativity at the heart of development.
In line with the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, we emphasise the need to incorporate culture as a strategic component of national and international sustainable development policies.
“ Having long been two sides of the same coin, art and science became separated during the Renaissance. It did not take long for technological progress to accompany artistic creation, and for the industrial revolution to cause artists to question the place of science in our societies, even if it meant borrowing its knowledge, its techniques and its technicians.
Do contemporary art and post-modernism seal their reconciliation, the return of the scientist-artist and the end of the divorce?”
